On the list of the best FREE places to take your child in pretty much any town is your local library! I was a little bookworm growing up and I have been working at instilling a love of books into my little nugget. There are huge stats out there that support reading to your children and the positive benefits that follow. Reading to your kids everyday helps them learn more words faster and can even help test performance down the line. But really-- who cares about the tests! This momma just loves a good story!

So this random morning, we made the drive across town to our library. I hadn't been there in years and had completely lost my card. My son happily held my hand as we walked inside and up to the main counter where I got my new card and paid a random late fee (don't judge lol!). With a brand new card in hand, we were ready to go pick out some books!

Halloween was coming, so I thought it would be fun to pick out some Halloween books to help my buddy learn more about trick or treating. Librarians are always ready for the change in seasons and big holidays-- they had a bunch of pre-selected children's titles all on a special display-- which we hit up first. We found CLIFFORD's HALLOWEEN which we snapped up right away. We LOVE Clifford. Turns out-- if that was the ONLY book we got, it would have been fine. We read that one a million times and all the other ones, just once.

My toddler loved wandering the aisles and pulling out random books to bring home. Today, we were selecting lots of books with pigs on the cover! We even found a Peppa Pig book that made it into our little pile-- we are newly into Peppa!

It didn't take us long to accumulate more than enough books. I was glad I remembered a reusable bag so I could tote them along with me while also toting my toddler. We were there early in the morning so it was still pretty empty so it was easy to maneuver with my little man.

The library has lots of events coming up for little kids-- but the minimum age is 2 so we'll have to wait just a bit longer before he can attend. I certainly plan to bring him back for those programs. We sat by the window and read one of our titles together before taking another walk through the bookshelves. We didn't stay long-- I didn't want the newness to wear off so he would keep being his best behaved self.

In perfect toddler fashion, he hardly wanted to give up any books so the librarian could check them out. Similar to how he feels when he is holding the cookie package in the grocery store and we still need to pay for it. After check-out, we walked to the car and got him all loaded up. He held onto one of the books and during our drive home, accidently ripped out an entire page. So then I made a new rule-- library books stay with Mommy and they are only read together. Snuggled on the couch with my boy reading books is the best way to read anyway!
