What To Bring

Have What You Need!

For My One Year Old, My packing list for our day trips is as follows:

Diapers (2-3 regular ones and 1 nighttime if we are getting home late)

Wipes (full pack or mostly full pack-- I switch it out regularly with my ones that stay home so on the road I always have the fullest pack)

Change of clothes and an extra layer (if the weather might change)

Stroller (I actually keep it stored in my car so I always have it if I think I'll need it)

Snacks (easy snacks like cheerios and goldfish, sliced fruit and high protein snacks like cheese sticks are my go-to's)

Water (hydration is my new obsession)

Kiddie fork/spoon (so he can comfortably eat with his own utensils

Sunscreen (those Irish roots!  We need it if we are outside.)

A Few Small Toys (we like matchbox cars!  We can play with them ANYWHERE.  They are great for restaurants where we can zoom them across the table.  They also don't take up much space in the diaper bag)

Pajamas (only if we will be home late and I think he will fall asleep in the car)

A Phone Charger (for Mommy, but just in case we need to play emergency episodes of CoCoMelon to avoid a meltdown)

Planning Your Trip

Time of Day Matters

Always consider these things when you plan your day trips with the baby.

1) Consider naps!  Try to time nap time with any long drives or schedule your outtings around those times.

2) Avoid peak hours.  I don't like crowded places alone, I certainly don't like them when I'm with my little guy.  I try to avoid peak times when planning trips to any destinations.

3) Weather!  The temperature outside changes the time you have!  I'll always double check the weather app and use it to guide our choices.  In the summer, I like to avoid the hottest hours of the day, and in the winter-- that is when we'll opt for anything outside.
